Canadian dealers regroup under Novexco

Canadian business products group Novexco has confirmed the addition of 90 dealers from two other dealer groups to its network.

In an important development for the Canadian independent business products dealer channel, Novexco has confirmed the addition of 90 dealers from Canadian Workplace Solutions (CWS) and Guild Stationers to its network.

The move – described as a “transformative milestone” – marks the end of CWS as a standalone dealer-owned buying group and consolidates the bulk of Canada’s independent dealer base under the Novexco umbrella.

The combined organisation will comprise close to 140 dealer members operating around 220 locations across all provinces, employing more than 4000 people and generating combined sales of about C$750 million (US$549 million).

Novexco CEO Denis Mathieu told OPI he had set the ball rolling on bringing the organisations together during an incentive trip with dealers last March.

Under the new arrangement CWS members have become shareholders of Novexco. CWS is set to be wound down once remaining administrative matters – including final rebate settlements – are completed. Its dealers will now operate within

Novexco’s structure, primarily under the Basics and Office Plus banners.

Guild Stationers is taking a slightly different, but equally significant, path. While it will remain a separate entity and continue to manage its Office Pro dealer network, it has joined the Novexco ecosystem as a single shareholder. At the same time, it has sold its warehouse facility to Novexco in order to focus on areas such as marketing and accounting.

Big UK dealers merge

Meantime, two well-known independent business products dealers in the UK are joining forces.

From 1 April, Hull-based dealer D3 will become part of the Heatons Group.

Heatons has been trading since 1986 and is one of the UK’s leading business supplies dealers, with locations across Merseyside, Cumbria and Cheshire. Together, the combined group will have a collective turnover of more than £22 million (US$30 million), bringing additional scale, stability and capability.
