Tassie mill to roll out Aussie-made A4 paper

BREAKING NEWS: Locally-made copy paper to return to the market next year.

The new owners of the Boyer pulp and paper mill in Tasmania have confirmed plans to transition the facility from newsprint to copy paper production.

The move will see the return next year of local production of A4 office paper, which ceased with the end of production of white paper Reflex at the Japanese-owned Opal Australian Paper mill at Maryvale in Victoria in 2023.

From 2000 to 2025, Boyer Mill was owned and operated by the Norwegian pulp and paper company Norske Skog.

In February this year, Norske Skog sold the mill to a company controlled by Melbourne businessman David Marriner, who established the Boyer Corporation as the new operating entity.

Situated on a 157-acre  site, the paper mill was constructed during World War II by Australian Newsprint Mills.

A $24 million federal government commitment is supporting the mill's transition to electric boilers, which is expected to reduce its carbon emissions by over 95 per cent.

A spokesperson for Boyer told Office Product News that the mill has produced a sample product that has been tested externally to ensure it is “fit for purpose”.
