Sydney dealers in like-minded merger

Discount does a deal with Surry Office National.

Long-established Sydney dealers Surry Office National and Discount Office National have merged their respective businesses.

The new entity, which will operate under the name Discount Office National, will be jointly owned by Discount’s John and Regina Donaghy and Surry’s Terry Murphy and Daniel Hoban, each of whom has a 25 per cent interest.

The business will be centralised at Discount’s Chipping Norton office and warehouse in western Sydney.

CBD-based City Stationery, owned by Donaghy Consulting, will continue as a separate business.

Surry Office National, co-founded by Murphy and Chris Hoban 40 years’ ago, outsourced its warehouse facilities to Brands Distribution around two years’ ago but will now move that side of the operation to Discount.

Discount director John Donaghy told Office Products News that the combined business will rank among the top five indepedent dealers in Sydney.

‘Both businesses are very similar in size and we have a complementary customer base. The merger not only secures our future but also accelerates our acquisition strategy,” he said.
