Select solution to dealer dilemma

Sell, merge or retire? There is another option.

Having established a combined warehouse operation with a few like-minded western Sydney dealers, Chris Murray (pictured) and his “partners” are on the expansion trail.

Murray’s Penrith Office National business was the focal point for the jointly-funded 1000 sqm warehouse facility, established for more than six years and now servicing a growing  number of dealers under the Select banner.

They include Select Office National Penrith (Chris Murray), Select Office National Macarthur (Tom Limbrey), Select Office National Wetherill Park (Paul Jones), Select Office National Norwest (Gary Smith), Select Office National Rockdale (Chris Murray) and Select Office National Blue Mountains (Paul Sturgiss).

Paul Sturgiss has recently rekindled the Blue Mountains business, previously trading as Bennett’s Office Supplies, following the closure of the Katoomba-based retail business with the retirement of Alan Sturgiss.

Murray told Office Products News that the original cost-efficiencies of a combined warehouse have filtered through other aspects of the partner’ operations, such as marketing and customer service.

“Our group offers dealers that are finding things ‘too hard’ or planning retirement, with another option,” Murray said.

“Each of the current partners maintain and service their own B2B customer base but we market ourselves under the Select Office National banner to reinforce the benefits of being part of group,” he said.

Murray said he was interested in talking to any dealer in the greater Sydney region – whether they are thinking of retiring or not.
