General Stationery under water in Brisbane

Hopes to be back in business next week.

Brisbane-based wholesaler General Stationery has lost around 20 per cent of its uninsured stock, according to director Marcus Bolton, who told Office Products News that the rising floodwaters “caught everyone by surprise”.

General Stationery is located about 400 metres from the Brisbane River and the water rose much more quickly than it did in 2011, and consequently did not allow for much time to move stock.

Bolton said insurance premiums - believed to be as much as $70,000 annually - were prohibitive due to the flood risk around Breakfast Creek.

Bolton said the company’s Melbourne facility had to be closed due to online system issues with the Brisbane head office.

“Hopefully, we’ll be trading next week,“ he said.

Mega’s Marty Bates mighty wet

Tweed Heads-based online business Mega Office Supplies appears to have escaped the worst of the flooding, but principal Martin (Marty) Bates had to use a kayak to access the front door of his house.

OPN has also received a report that Office Brand’s On-Net dealer Snows Offices Supplies at Rocklea in Brisbane has been impacted by flood waters.
