Australia Post’s ‘terrifying’ photo of parcel pile-up

Australia Post’s troubles with its parcel pick-up business has been incapsulated in a photo (pictured) inside the organisation’s distribution centre in Melbourne.
 
Australia Post announced parcel pick-ups from businesses in Melbourne would be halted for five days until 6 October as it works through volumes of packages usually only experienced at Christmas time.
 
The picture of the distribution centre in the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine was sent to radio station 3AW.
 
Australia Post general manager of corporate affairs, Michelle Skehan, told the morning radio program that the picture from the distribution centre “looks a little bit terrifying”, as online shopping booms in Victoria.
 
Skehan said that lockdowns in NSW and ACT was making the situation worse.
 
Australia Post announced the temporary pause on collections and business lodgements for e-commerce retailers in Melbourne as a way to clear the “record volumes” of parcels at centres due to the ongoing impacts of the pandemic.
