Smiggle closing UK high street stores

Aussie chain impacted by localised retail slump.

Australian fashion stationery chain Smiggle has closed several high stores in the UK as the country’s retail sector feels a winter chill.

Smiggle has cut prices up to 70 per cent at its Redditch outlet, which will close its doors following the recent closure of several other high street outlets.

The retailer has faced a slump in recent years. It has closed multiple stores, including its branch in Inverness, Scotland last May, followed by the Shrewsbury and Cwmbran Shopping Centre outlets.

Having launched in the UK in 2014, Smiggle at one time had more than 135 stores.

Meantime, more than 3000 UK high street stores have closed in recent years.
