Pilot boosted by US performance

Japanese writing instruments manufacturer Pilot benefited from strong sales of its flagship G-2 gel pen in the US during the second quarter of 2025.
Pilot’s overall net sales for the second quarter decreased by 2.7 per cent to US$243 million.
However, organic growth in overseas markets – particularly the US – contributed positively, especially during the back-to-school season. In contrast, the domestic market softened and was impacted by changes in regional reporting.
The Asia region, which now includes consolidated subsidiaries in India and Malaysia, posted a 4.1 per cent increase in Q2 revenue, with China – the region’s largest market – seeing good traction for the Juice line of gel pens.
Sales in Japan fell 3.7 per cent in Q2 as the segment faced tough comparison against the prior year – which had benefitted from a wave of new product launches. In addition, sales to Malaysia and India – previously booked under the Japan segment – are now classified under Asia following recent changes in the group structure.
In Europe, Pilot reported a modest local currency increase supported by a recovery in its FRIXION series, including the launch of the FRIXION ball+ made from recycled materials.
