Dollarama underway with Reject Shop revamp

Canadian discount chain starts work on Aussie purchase.
Canadian discount retailer Dollarama is in the process upgrading up to 400 The Reject Shop stores following its $295 million purchase last year of the Australian retail chain.
A spokesperson for The Reject Shop confirmed it would cease operations at Castle Towers in Castle Hill by the end of June, stating the closure was part of “optimising” its national network as it pivots on value and convenience, while targeting a jump from roughly 400 stores to about 700 by 2034.
Dollarama also flagged 60 to 80 store upgrades and 15 to 25 net new openings nationally this year, alongside a gradual push to lower price points across categories.
The Reject Shop recently opened its newly renovated Traralgon store in Victoria, giving shoppers a sneak peek into what they can expect from the retailer’s nationwide transformation. The Traralgon Centre Plaza Store features an updated layout that is cleaner and more similar to supermarket layouts, allowing it to stock even more products.
The Reject Shop reopened its Forest Hill store last month, which also retains the Reject Shop banner, but green and gold Dollarama colours can be spotted throughout the store.
Once a store reaches a "critical mass" of Dollarama inventory, it will be fully rebadged.
Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Montreal, Québec, Canada, Dollarama has around 1700 stores in Canada.
Canadian stores average 10,455 square feet and offer a broad assortment of consumable products, general merchandise, stationery and seasonal items, including private label and national brand products.
